Folks, Three SAM 117 members (Poole, McIntyre and Hiner) flew today at the SOAR Old Grove Road field today. Our second day this March flying at this field. Today's high temp: in the 50's. Two weeks ago, in the upper 40's. Both days wind: less than 10 mph. First flights on Glen's Speed 400 Twin Cyclone. I made the first and only flight on this new model. Needs some trim and radio changes before next flights. Original size of this design by a Fort Wayne modeler. Glen plans on flying this model at a Fort Wayne SAM contest this year. Here is the photo with Glen holding his new model. Two weeks ago, McIntyre took some photos of the Anderson Pylon built for me by Burkart and McIntyre. 99-inch wingspan with geared Neu motor. 21/14 carbon fiber propeller 11 pounds 6 ounces. Klarich kit & John Pond plans. Long tail and large wood sizes. Twelve 2500 mAh Nicds for the motor. Heavy powerful servos. Two-piece wing and large radio battery. Jack Hiner

1/2A Texaco Bomber

Hi Tom: This is the 1/2A Irish flag Bomber. Many years ago, 1977 or 1978, I met Chet Lanzo at a Sam Champs in the Pines of N.J. The next week, Chet sent me plans for the Bomber. About 1995 I started to build the 1/2A version. The Stardust Special stopped all my other airplane building. After I gave away a bunch of airplanes, I dusted off the old Bomber parts and completed the airplane. The only silk I had was green and orange so it's my Irish flag Bomber. John A Sullivan

Or, Côte d'Ivoire depending on whether it's coming or going...

Sokol 465 G Electro Rubber

 Hi all,

I finished the construction of the 3 Sokol 465 G Electro Rubber models that have kept me out of the snow and ice in a nice warm workshop…..  It’s 13°F  outside now!  (same here in Columbus!)

As soon as I get the rest of the gear for them, I will be covering them.

Looks like there isn’t any problem with them coming in at the 12 oz. minimum.  All the framed up, models with servos in them, come up to about 5 oz.

As you see them, so that gives plenty of weight left to work with.  The one shown with motor, prop and even the servo extensions weighs 6.4 oz.

Want to thank Dennis for drawing and making the cutting files and especially

László Török

(Laci) for sharing this fine World Champs winning design from Czechia , so that

we here in SAM in the US can also enjoy it.  Thanks Rick Holman for the great short kit and especially fine laser cutting.

This will be a great model to kick off our new SAM event for the next rules cycle of this event: Electro Rubber.

Thanks,

Jay Burkart
